Another Earthquake for Christchurch

Christchurch Earthquake Daily Energy ReleaseOn the 22 February 2011, there was another earthquake here in Christchurch, NZ. I was here for this one, standing outside watching the world wobble.

The severity of what happened didn’t hit me until Saturday 26 Feb.   We went to help a friend move house and we had to drive from the West side to the East side of Christchurch.  It was amazing, the sand all over the streets, the massive sink holes that you can fit cars in, and being able to see the tops of the city centre buildings and how damaged they are.

It is going to be interesting times for the next couple of years here in New Zealand.  Socially, Economically, Politically.

People have left Christchurch to try and escape the earthquakes, even though New Zealand is one big fault line.  Last night, 1 March 2011 at 10:07pm, they had a 4.5.

Economically, it is also going to be very interesting as the cost of this quake has not only shut down the centre of Christchurch for months, but the rest of New Zealand will also feel the effects, most likely at least through a tax.

Politically, both of the above are going to be drivers as to what happens with the politics.

Food for thought:

An earthquake achieves what the law promises but does not in practice maintain – the equality of all men.”  ~Ignazio Silone

For many, the earthquake reminds us what is important. How long will we practice those things that are important before we go back to our day dreams?

Peace,
=-)
