They have been a long time coming but here they are!
March was the end of the summer Good Times! Felix and I did a few last things on the West Coast like Wild Foods. The food is getting more tasty opposed to more wild but we had a good time anyway.
We spent our last few days sleeping on the beach, driving along the beach, and surfing at the beach.
After Felix left I carried on with the surfing around Christchurch, fitting in as much as I could before the weather became colder and I lost my wheels for the winter.
A couple of show photos of Brent’s work of Subaru WRX auto mobile.
And 1 photo of a disappointing live concert of Queens of the Stoneage. Not entirely their fault, someone hired a sound crew hardly worthy of setting up a home entertainment system. They were then followed by Smashing Pumpkins who I would say sounded even worse so I went home early.
Here is the latest video from August 2008 Snowboarding at Rainbow
What a great day, sun, snow and great mates. We had a super day at Rainbow. Six of us piled in to the van and away we went. The video covers the whole day, but don’t worry, I included the good bits like the attempted back flip, many jumps, drops, and probably the best cart wheel of the day
They claimed to have 250cm ~ 400cm of snow on the day which is possibly the most snow I have ever known at our small local field. We enjoyed the trails in the morning while the snow softened up a bit, and then we hit West Bowl and walked up SixOne to an awesome wind lip. This kept us busy for a while before we needed to carry on carving up the white canvas.
I’m sure someone is there, I see you on my stats Anyway, I have been underground, working on a Top Secret Project, so secret, even the government doesn’t know about it!
But spring is here and I’m feeling a little more motivated to work on this site again. I have plenty of photos to catch up on so will work on posting them up.
Here is a teaser of last week. I took a break in Nelson and 6 of us piled in to a van and went snowboarding at Rainbow.
On the 11th of August 2008 I received a reply to my Earth Day Call. Below I have typed out the letter and you can also see the attached pdf document if you would like.
Dear James Turner
Thank you for your email to my office, dated 22 April 2008, regarding energy efficiency and renewable energy. I admire your resolve to make New Zealand a more sustainable place.
The government is committed to ensuring the country has a reliable supply of low-emission energy. In fact, the recently released New Zealand Energy Strategy sets the target for New Zealand to use 90 percent renewable electricity by 2025. The New Zealand Energy Strategy can be downloaded from www.med.govt.nz.
As you also mention in your letter, solar water heating has the potential to significantly contribute to household energy savings. The government currently offers grants of up to $1000 to install solar water heating and other energy efficient water heating systems in both new and existing homes. To find our more about the governments solar water heating grants please visit www.energywise.govt.nz/solar.
Additionally, the government is committed to improving the energy efficiency of New Zealand homes, enabling the introduction of alternative vehicle technologies such as electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids and continuing the uptake of renewable sources of energy generation, including wind, hydro, bio energy and geothermal. To find out more about these initiatives and about the range of grants and other forms of support that the government offers please visit www.eeca.govt.nz.
I am proud of the steps that New Zealand has taken so far and of our well deserved reputation as a world leader when it comes to addressing both sustainability and climate change.
